European smoketree (Cotinus coggygria, slo. ruj) is species of a flowering plant. Its flowers are produced in large inflorescences, of which most abort, elongating into yellowish-pink to pinkish-purple feathery plumes that look like smoke when viewed from a distance, giving the plant its name.
In autumn its leaves get colored in very varied colors, from green through yellow, orange and red to purple and all the colors and combinations in between. It's very abundant in the
Kras region of Slovenia.
